ARTS & HISTORY: Who We Are

Arts Council

Gabriola Arts Council always needs volunteers to help out with all aspects of our events, such as:

  • Steering committees and planning groups

  • Distributing posters, programs and brochures.

  •  Managing social media. Putting up banners, flags.

  • Site preparation, set-up, tear-down. Transportation of site structures to and from festival sites.

  • Ticket sales and Front-of-house, security

  • Helping with technical-  sound and light

  • Workshop support 

  • Assembling kits (for instructors, artists, performers, etc.)

  • Kids Corner management

  • Recycling and Refuse management

  • Soliciting and collecting raffle prizes 

  • Billeting  and transportation of performers

  • Collation of evaluations and preparation of evaluation summary

  • We also occasionally need help in the office—research, document preparation, social media, etc., and help with the building project, property maintenance, etc.

Time commitment  a few hours to unlimited

Gabriola Historical Museum Society

  • Maintain the Native Plant Garden - tidy, weed, mulch 

  • Cut grass, tidy up around driveway with a bush cutter or trimmer.

  • April-June - Teach Gabriola natural and cultural history to elementary school children from K-grade 7. Training available.

  • Help set up and work in booths on Opening Day -May 20th; Canada Day -July 1st.

Gabriola Players

Gabriola Players is a theatrical society that is also a registered charity, with about 80 dues-paying members. They stage several productions a year, from small-scale readings to the gigantic annual Christmas show. Productions are staged by volunteer actors, directors, producers, and stage managers. In addition, volunteers are needed for lighting, sound, makeup, costumes, and "front of house" activities.


Training is always available.
